It’s all about the gospel, and at the North American Mission Board (NAMB), we are committed to doing whatever it takes to see a healthy, Multiplying Church in every community across North America. As we advance God’s kingdom through church planting, we don’t go alone.
We stand with the men and women leaders who came before us centuries ago. More specifically, we continue the mission work done by thousands of Southern Baptists through their sacrifices.
And how has this work to reach North America been fueled through the decades? In large part that has been through the collective generosity of Southern Baptists to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering (AAEO).
Here are five things you should know about the AAEO:
- The offering’s namesake, Annie Armstrong (1850-1938), was born in Baltimore at a time when women had little voice. Yet, she challenged pastors and churches to take action in their communities and rallied vital support for missionaries. Annie was recognized as a national Southern Baptist trailblazer for her visionary leadership in missions.
- More than $1 billion has been given to the AAEO since the offering began in 1895. This past year, the AAEO receipts were $61.6 million—the highest to date.
- The AAEO is 49% of NAMB’s annual budget. Every gift goes to train, resource and send thousands of missionaries in church planting and compassion ministries.
- The offering supports North American missions work where approximately 363 million people live, and a projected 75% of those people do not have a personal relationship with Christ.
- Depending on a missionary’s role, the offering may provide financial support, housing, ministry equipment, rent for worship facilities, emergency assistance, encouragement gifts, Bibles and curriculum and other resources.
